More than 2000 individuals and families are vying for 126 residential blocks in the new Gungahlin suburb of Taylor.
The Land Development Agency is selling Taylor’s first blocks via a ballot drawn on March 15.
A total 2396 prospective buyers have requested appointments to choose their preferred blocks on Wednesday and Thursday.
The ballot has determined which registered buyers get first choice of the blocks, via appointments at the Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club.
Rizwan Ahmed Momin was the 10th participant drawn from the ballot, giving him an array of blocks to choose from on Wednesday.
The Queanbeyan resident bought a 387-square-metre block for $300,000.
Mr Momin said the block was the largest within his price range and well located within the suburb.
He’s renting a unit with his wife and they’re looking forward to having a place of their own.
They like Gungahlin and thought Taylor represented good value within the region.
“We thought it was the best opportunity,” Mr Momin said.
Taylor block sizes range from 250 to 587 square metres and will cost between $221,000 and $383,000. Thirty-four of the blocks will cost less than $300,000.
Taylor, in Gungahlin’s north, will have about 2500 dwellings in a mix of low and medium-density housing options once complete.
The suburb will also house a school, local shops, green space and playing fields.
