The first group of blocks to be released in the new Gungahlin suburb of Taylor have sold out in less than two days.
More than 2000 prospective buyers requested appointments with the Land Development Agency on Wednesday and Thursday to choose one of the 126 residential lots on offer.
The agency sold Taylor’s first blocks via a ballot drawn on March 15, with those lucky registrants drawn first getting first preference.
Land Development Agency acting deputy chief executive officer Neil Bulless said 144 individuals and families attended appointments at the Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club for the chance to buy a block, with 18 deciding not to make a purchase.
Almost 300 registrants had requested an appointment, pending the availability of land.
“Taylor has proved to be a popular estate with strong interest from a broad cross section of the market,” Mr Bulless said.
“Taylor is just four kilometres from the Gungahlin Town Centre, adjacent to Horse Park Drive to the north of Casey and Moncrieff.
“The suburb will provide options for every stage of life and has been carefully planned to include plenty of green spaces, central meeting places and amenities.”
Taylor’s first release also included 34 land rent blocks.
Mr Bulless said 36 per cent of ballot registrants selected the option of land rent in their original applications.
Taylor will feature about 2500 dwellings in a mix of low and medium-density housing options once complete.
A school will open in 2019. The suburb will also house shops, playing fields and parkland.
