A Coombs house that demonstrates how grand-scale living can be achieved on our ever-shrinking blocks will be showcased on the Seven Network’s Australia’s Best Houses.

The display house was designed and constructed by local building company Guest Designs and interior designer Jocelyn Guest hopes potential homeowners and renovators will be inspired by the property’s clever use of space.

The 700 square metre block comprises 400 metres of internal living and still allows plenty of room for a backyard.

“It’s a big place and the block isn’t big, so we’ve been able to really utilise that space by doing a double storey and having a pool in the front yard,” Ms Guest says.

The home also packs a punch with the high level of inclusions on display throughout. From the marble fireplace in the open-plan living area and Canberra red brick accents to the spectacular bathrooms with freestanding tubs and rose gold tapware, every detail has been thoughtfully considered.

Australia’s Best Houses presenter Bessie Kay said the property’s striking industrial design coupled with warm details make the home a standout.

“It’s industrial in terms of the iron and commercial windows, but we tried to bring in some Scandinavian [design] with the timbers and the really soft furnishings,” Ms Guest says.

The kitchen and the bathrooms showcase high-end finishes fusing classic with contemporary.

Motorised cabinetry and integrated appliances provide a glimpse into kitchens of the future, while the marble fireplace at the end of the island bench gives the hub of the home its wow factor.

Ms Guest said she expects to see a surge in requests for luxury homes on a smaller footprint as the larger Mr Fluffy blocks are rezoned for dual occupancies.

The display home in Coombs incorporates five bedrooms – two with en suites – three separate living areas and a swimming pool.

The swimming pool wraps around the front of the home, perfectly positioned to capture the sunlight and take in the views across the Molonglo River and towards Black Mountain.

Ms Guest said incorporating the pool in the front yard allowed extra space in the backyard and provided a focal point for the living areas.

The Molonglo Valley suburb has become a hotspot for local companies’ display homes. Coombs was previously featured on Australia’s Best Houses earlier this year when Tranquility Homes Canberra opened up their display home in the suburb.

The home will feature on Australia’s Best Houses’ luxury living special, which will commence on Friday October 7 at 9.30pm on 7TWO.
