Northey Street City Farm is a local favourite for Queenslanders who are becoming increasingly more conscious of how their food and purchases are produced. Open every Sunday from 6 to 10.30 am, it offers fruit, vegetables, bread, meat, cheeses and wine through to cosmetics and proudly claims to be Queensland’s first market selling certified organic produce. There are plenty of free workshops for those who like to get their hands dirty and their minds engaged, along with art activities to keep the kids entertained.

If your Sunday mornings are better spent in bed, do the weekly shopping at the Saturday Fresh Market at Brisbane MarketPlace Rocklea, which is the largest in the area. An entry fee of just $1 per person or $3 per vehicle will give access to over 170 stalls selling fresh produce from all across south-east Queensland and northern New South Wales.

The Valley Markets are home to a wide range of goods including vintage clothes, fashion and bric-a-brac. This staple market is held every Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm at the Chinatown Mall.

Moggill Markets in Brookfield is a market that prides itself on being a social hub exclusively for growers and direct sellers. On the first and third Saturdays of each month, you can be sure you’re buying fresh produce straight from the smiling farmers who grew it. Donations are taken and all proceeds go to local charities.

Handcrafted goods

Etsy has made a name for itself as one of the most vibrant online marketplaces for handcrafted goods and second-hand wares. When a bunch of Brisbane-based Etsy sellers got together for tea, cake and conversation, the creative result was BrisStyle – a hub for all local artists and producers to join up and sell their wares.

If you’re looking for a place to browse in real life for some of the amazing things you’d expect to find on Etsy, visit the BrisStyle Indie Markets in City Hall from 9 am to 3 pm on the first Saturday of each month.

These are just some of the many markets you’ll find in Brisbane. If you know of other great Brisbane markets, we’d love to hear your reviews.
