Agents and the industry are responding to a ban on public open homes using technology and scheduling private inspections.

The government has announced a ban of public auctions and open homes in response to the coronavirus crisis. However, there are ways you can continue to inspect a property within the current guidelines.

Domain has released two new features to help make the process easier.

New: Request a private inspection

Private, one-on-one inspections are still permissible and can be organised with the listing agent by following these steps on Domain:

1. On the listing of your choice, scroll down to ‘Inspection times’.
2. Select the ‘Request private inspection’ button.
3. Ensure your details are up-to-date and add any further information for the agent. Then select ‘Request details’.

Buyers can now request a private inspection via Domain listings.

The listing agent will then be in touch to facilitate a private inspection of the property.

Agents will be diligent in checking whether you have travelled overseas or been unwell recently before conducting a private inspection.

New: Request an online inspection

If the listing agent, vendor or you do not feel comfortable conducting private inspections, Domain has made it easy to request a virtual one.

Online inspections will take place via video chat technology like Skype, WhatsApp, Zoom, Facetime or Google Hangouts, and are organised by the listing agent.

1. On the listing of your choice, scroll down to ‘Inspection times’.
2. Select ‘Request online inspection’.
3. Ensure your details are up-to-date and add any further information for the agent. Then select ‘Request details’.

Agents will be in-touch to organise a video call at a time that is suitable for you.

Inspect properties via virtual tours, video and 3D floor plans

Agents are being quick to adapt to the ban on public inspections, enhancing online listings with features such as videos and 3D floor plans to help you inspect a property from the comfort of your own home.

Virtual tours are high-quality, 360-degree views of a property which allow you to move through the property at their own pace. Buyers can also see the property from a range of views including overhead, and interactive measuring tools allow them to assess how their furniture would fit in the space.

Keep an eye out for these features, which can be found on some Domain listings alongside photos of the property.
