Balmain

Located less than five kilometres from Sydney’s CBD, Balmain is an inner-city suburb that is a park lover’s dream. Birchgrove Park and Elkington Park are vast spaces with beautiful views of Parramatta River. Mort Bay Park is a close rival with its distant views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This park is popular with locals and has a ferry wharf.

If you want to be close to the hustle and bustle of the city but need a sunny escape on the weekend for picnics with friends, Balmain provides the perfect balance.

Terrey Hills

Terrey Hills is north of Sydney and surrounded by parkland. The Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park encloses the suburb so locals can enjoy the bushland less than 40 minutes from the city centre. If you love horseriding or bushwalking, Terrey Hills is the perfect spot for you. The 21-kilometre-long scenic Perimeter Trail is designed for horse riders, while the area also has a variety of bushwalking trails to try out.

Queens Park

Most areas in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney have the luxury of the beach at their doorstep, but Queens Park has the added element of vast parklands just a hop, skip and a jump away. The suburb is home to Queens Park, which boasts 26 hectares of grass.

This green suburb is also close to Centennial Parklands, which has something for everyone to enjoy. Centennial Park has off-leash areas for dogs, play equipment for kids, bike hire for riders and a horseriding track for a different type of rider.

Stanwell Tops

Head south for a magical forest experience. Driving down the winding roads to Stanwell Tops is like entering a fairy grotto. It’s close to the comforts of the city but once you’re here you feel like you’re worlds away. Not only does the suburb abut the Royal National Park, but it is home to a beautiful beach and the famous Sea Cliff Bridge. A 20-minute drive takes you to the Audley Boatshed where you can canoe along the Hacking River.

Wetherill Park

Set in the heart of Western Sydney, Wetherill Park is just under one hour west of Sydney’s CBD. This green suburb neighbours Western Sydney Parklands, which is a whopping 16 times bigger than Centennial Parklands. The Lizard Log area is a wonderland of fun activities including a flying fox, climbing wall and water playground. This growing suburb is perfect for families who want to spend their weekends enjoying their local parkland.

Whether you want to be close to the CBD or you’re looking for greener pastures further afield, Sydney has some beautiful green suburbs all nature lovers would appreciate.
