Picturesque Childers (population 6000) is central to every attraction the Wide Bay offers, being situated on the Bruce highway - a 3 hour drive north of Brisbane. The countryside is magnificent with sweeping fields of lush green sugarcane, orchards and small crops amidst the hills of rich red volcanic soil. Childers is a half-hour drive from Bundaberg in the north and Maryborough and Hervey Bay to the south. The inland towns of Biggenden and Gayndah with rich grazing and citrus orchards are a similar distance while Woodgate Beach and Buxton on the river are a short 20 minute drive.
