Just 113 kilometres (71 miles) north of Townsville in North
Queensland lies the beautiful tropical Hinchinbrook Shire. Nestled within a
semi-circle of mountains at the rear and protected by Islands offshore, Hinchinbrook
is an ideal place for families to raise their youngsters and retirees to put
their feet up and relax. With Ingham as the central town, there are small
populated centres all around, and three beach villages that offer a variety of
attractions to everyone. Sugar cane is the mainstay of the economy of the
district, with the big attraction being the number of interesting places to see
and enjoy within a short drive by car. Whether it's out in a boat around the
Islands or Great Barrier Reef, sightseeing up the Hinchinbrook channel, fishing
and crabbing in the tidal creeks, visiting the waterfalls with their swimming
holes and picnic areas, fossicking for minerals in the mountain ranges, seeing
how sugar cane is grown and crushed, and a host of other scenic attractions,
the Hinchinbrook Shire can keep you occupied with much enjoyment during your
stay and leisure time.
Forrest
Beach, the premiere beach in the shire, boasts 12 kilometres of white sandy
beach for you to stroll along. The natural beachline is mostly untouched
allowing visitors and residents to soak in the pristine natural environment.
The very centre of the beachfront does have parks and gardens perfect for a
family picnic or to gather for a bootcamp session in the early morning or late
afternoon. Grab some fish and chips or a meal from Forrest Beach Takeaway or
have a cool refreshing beverage overlooking the ocean at the Forrest Beach Surf
Life Saving Club or Forrest Beach Hotel.
