Don’t miss …

The Chase Australia

Channel 7, Monday to Friday, 5pm

Andrew O’Keefe is the most under-rated TV presenter in Australia. First, with Deal or No Deal and now The Chase, he has the same amount of energy, show after show after show.

Claws

Stan

Wow. This series about some underworld business from a Florida nail salon is part drama, comedy and farce. Camp is a word I would use to describe episode one of season two.

The Bold and The Beautiful

Channel 10, Monday to Friday, 4.30pm

I know, how tragic, but watch to see if the show’s writers finally move on from the Liam, Hope and Steffy storyline. For god’s sake Liam, just settle on one or the other!

Geordie Shore

MTV

A real guilty pleasure – and a bit tragic, again. This year the cast are on the Gold Coast, which is a match made in heaven. With their accents, I just wish sometimes subtitles were used.

Foreign Correspondent

ABC TV and ABC iview, Tuesday, 8pm

A recent episode featuring the voluntary euthanasia death of 104-year-old Perth scientist David Goodall was one of the most powerful half-hours of television seen in a while. This story in particular is worth checking out on replay on ABC iview.

Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee

Netflix

Jerry Seinfeld takes a fellow comedian for a ride in a vintage car in this moving talkshow. In the 2018 season, titled Freshly Brewed, episode one features actor Zach Galifianakis; Ellen DeGeneres makes an appearance; and the season includes the legendary Jerry Lewis.

Seinfeld connects with the audience, without even trying. Look out for Will Ferrell, David Letterman and Jim Carey in other seasons.

Animals

Foxtel, The Comedy Channel

Another very smart animation series out of the United States, joining a long list such as The Simpsons and Family Guy.

I can’t stop watching

“I love the old version of Prisoner. It takes me back to 1979 when I was at school and my grandmother used to yell and turn the power off when Prisoner was on. She thought it would make me want to go to prison.”

The word is …

Anyone for cricket?

It’s going to be a strange summer for sport fans, thanks to Channel 7 broadcasting the cricket and Channel 9 taking on the Australian Open.

Seven’s commentary team includes James Brayshaw, Tim Lane, and British broadcaster Alison Mitchell. Good on Seven for making some changes to the old and tired Channel 9 line-up, but have they gone far enough?

It would be nice to have some young, fresh talent behind the microphone.

Goals in sight

If you have spotted film crews on location around Melbourne lately, it could very well be the team from Playing For Keeps. The focus on this drama is on the WAGS – wives and girlfriends – of fictional footy players. Watch for Olympia Valance; a rising star.

Valance moved to Los Angeles after finishing her stint on Neighbours, but has returned for a few months to film Playing For Keeps. It will most likely premiere on Channel 10 later in the year.

Also catch …

Mandela, the passing of an icon

SBS On Demand

This remarkable documentary is about how eNCA, the largest 24-hour news station South Africa, covered the death of Nelson Mandela, the former South African leader and anti-apartheid champion.

Ramsay’s 24 Hours To Hell And Back

Channel 7, Monday, 9pm

Gordon Ramsay – who was delightful when here for MasterChef and at the Australian Open – still has a huge television presence.

AFL 360

Foxtel, Fox Footy, Monday to Thursday, 7.30pm

A real footy fan show without all the fanfare. Leading up to the AFL finals, the AFL 360 team are always on the money.
