We’re nearing the end of The Block on Charming Street, which means the teams have come to the point where they’re correcting some of their past mistakes.
Yep, it’s Redo Room Week!
It was a massive task for the Blockheads, who also had to churn out their final bathroom as well as tackle improvements on one of their previously completed rooms.
Here’s a look at the teams’ rooms before and after the redo and what judges Darren Palmer, Shaynna Blaze and Neale Whitaker had to say about them.

Kyle and Leslie‘s living and dining room in Week 5 was strongly criticised by the judges due to the lack of space.
At the time, the couple decided not to remove a wall to open up the zones upon deciding it was too costly and time consuming.
Their custom Christian Cole table barely fit into its intended area and reminded everyone that the room size was a major problem.
When it came time to do the all-important redo room, they decided to push through the wall that was so highly critiqued to make a more open-plan living area.
When the judges entered, they could not stop smiling.
“I was here the week we judged this previously, and it felt so enclosed. Now it feels generous and open,” Neale said, praising the curved wall feature.
Darren claimed he still felt there was a transition issue between the table and sofa.
But he added: “Walking into the space, it feels like the proportions required of a house of this size.”
“This is the first time I feel the floorplan and the aesthetic come together,” Shaynna said.
Who can forget the turmoil Leah and Ash went through when they first revealed their work from home space?
Their plans were completely thwarted when a giant storm smashed their room, causing the ceiling to almost cave in and untold damage.
Adding insult to injury, the judges didn’t like the styling or the layout of the room and panned the couple for not tweaking their floor plan to accommodate a forth bedroom instead.
“This bedroom feels more… our house,” Leah smiled before unveiling the new bedroom.
As the judges walked in, they loved what they saw.
“Hallelujah,” Darren said, while Shaynna said it was a “huge success”.
“It was of a different era that didn’t match the house,” she said of the old room. “That fireplace… it makes it grand. I just think it’s gorgeous. This is perfect.”
“We were steadfast this was the wrong choice for the room. This is absolutely supposed to be a bedroom – I hate to say I told you so!” Darren laughed.
Kristy and Brett’s redo room was their studio bathroom.
It’s interesting that this was the room they scored the worst feedback for, because they went on to absolutely dominate their ensuite (tying with Eliza and Liberty) and their guest bathroom would have won, if Leah and Ash hadn’t played a bonus point Gnome.
The two were originally critiqued for trying to include too many differing style in the one space. “No idea at the time,” Brett admitted.
When it came down to it, their redo room ended up unfinished and in a worse state than it was before.
“Nope,” Darren said as he walked inside.
“They could have just put the tiles over the top,” Shaynna said, looking at the tiles that had been removed from the wall.
Neale added: “What we’ve ended up with is a disaster. This is not the time when you want to be faced with an extra problem like this.”
“This isn’t a redo room, this is an undo room,” Darren concluded.
Steph and Gian were certainly not expecting their master ensuite to be described as a quarantine facility!
But that’s exactly what vibe judge Marty Fox was getting and let’s just say this room did not see them scoring any extra $10k bonuses.
The pair were slammed for creating a room with a problematic floor plan that felt harsh.
When the judges walked into the newly renovated room, Neale said: “Wow. It’s very me, I love it!”
The vanity had been moved from the opposite side of the wall, and the judges said the new Venetian plaster really warmed up the space.
They also loved the addition of the bench seat, to which Darren said: “I am just besotted with that, I love that so much.”
Shaynna would have preferred more base-level storage, but enjoyed the room nonetheless.
Eliza and Liberty’s first run at their studio was a bit of a disaster.
“Marty Fox [told us that] he would rather have seen an empty room that what we had done with it,” Liberty remembered.
Looking back, the pair admitted that they made some major styling errors.
When the judges walked into the redo room, they certainly liked what they saw.
“Awesome,” Darren said, while Shaynna added: “I feel such a sense of relief right now!”
The girls had removed the wallpaper that the judges hated, replacing it with a stunning floral Grafico print with TV artwork of the same style – which the judges said was an “inspired idea”.
The girls were praised for hiding the microwave and moving the TV, with Darren gushing: “They’ve done a great job.”
