With the five Gatwick apartments now done and dusted, the finale of The Block Season 14 is fast approaching.
While we’ve seen winning and losing rooms each Sunday night, it’s the auction that will really determine the winning team – and it’s not always who you think.
This season, Norm and Jess were the lucky winners of the Domain cover, which has predicated the last two winners of the series, but Bianca and Carla have received the highest scores from the judges. There’s also Rose Banks, one of The Gatwick’s previous owners, who is said to be keenly interested in Hayden and Sara’s apartment.
As the long-running series has shown, it’s anyone’s guess what will happen come auction day. But one thing is for sure, winning and losing on The Block can mean very different things depending on the season.
While some seasons have seen teams walk away with prize packets just shy of a million dollars, others have ended up with a big fat zero.
Here are the top five biggest winners and losers in Block history.

After a disappointing run in Season Nine, Dea and Darren Jolly made up for it in Season 10 with the biggest win in Block history. The couple walked away with a total winnings of $935,000 for their South Yarra apartment.
This was a particularly lucrative season that saw all the teams smash their reserves, and even Ayden and Jess, who came in fourth place and were the technical “losers” of the season, still walked away with $665,000.
To put that in context, that “loss” is more than eight of the overall “winners” of the series.
1. Dea and Darren – Triple Threat: Season 10
Property: Former apartment block in South Yarra
Total winnings: $935,000
2. William and Karlie – The Block 2016: Season 12

5. Brad and Lara – The Block 2012: Season Five

However, not all seasons have been so lucky. The second season of the series saw two couples walk away with nothing, a combined auction result of only $155,000 and two properties failing to even sell at auction.
