A new, improved and revamped version of the 1990s classic Changing Rooms will premiere on Channel 10 this month, the network has announced.

With former X-Factor host Natalie Bassingthwaighte at the helm, the renovation show will launch on television screens on February 13.

In a statement, the network’s chief content officer Beverley McGarvey said the series would leverage off what had worked so well in the show’s original format.

“‘Our new show will capture the essence and appeal of the original format and re-energise it, with strong storylines and more kitchen and bathroom reveals, which are proven favourites with Australian viewers,” she said.

“Created by the people behind such proven hits as MasterChef Australia and Australian Survivor, the new Changing Rooms will be fun, bright, energetic and great family viewing.”

McGarvey also hinted the show would have its share of drama, saying it will be “more than informative”.

Changing Rooms proved that renovation could be more than informative: it could also be full of fun, big characters and tension. We cannot wait to bring our exciting new version to viewers.”

In the very first promo released on Twitter, the show has billed itself as one that will give viewers “TV’s boldest, most daring room reveals” and announced Tim Leveson, Jane Thomson, Naomi Findlay and Chris Carroll as the expert designers on the series.

The show originally aired on Channel Nine for eight seasons until 2005 and was hosted by Suzie Wilks.

The network promises the reboot will follow much the same format as the original, with storylines focused on couples swapping houses with their family or friends. With expert designers on hand to consult with, each couple is tasked with decorating a few rooms in each other’s home.

Renovation shows have been capturing the Australian public in recent years, with Channel Nine’s The Block and Channel Seven’s House Rules becoming fixtures on local screens.
