An Aussie beach shack offers instant kerb appeal with its candy pink façade.
Called Sunkissed Higgins and designed by architecture firm RAD Studio, the property in Middleton, South Australia, received a commendation at the 38th Dulux Colour Awards, held at Sydney Opera House on May 29.
The property was recognised under the Single Residential Exterior category, and is described as “pure retro joy” in a statement by Dulux.
Curved weatherboard cladding features a paint palette of a crisp white and six shades of gelato pink in an ombre effect. The exact paints used were Dulux Whitsunday Island, Shy Girl, Petula, Poised Peach, Candy, Slippery Salmon and Glowing Coals.
The tonal graduations of pink were chosen to “reflect the ombre effect of the setting sun” and “pay homage to the classic Aussie beach shack”, in a release provided by Dulux.
A candy pink front door matches the aesthetic and teams well with the remaining white exterior walls and large windows that offer interrupted views of the ocean.
Completed in 2023, the home has undergone a significant renovation, once a red brick cottage from the 1960s.
The property is very much an entertainer’s pad with a skateboard ramp, deck and landscaped garden with trendy circular pavers.
Andrea Lucena-Orr, Colour and Communications Manager for Dulux, revealed the dominant theme at this year’s awards was the “use of colour in all-encompassing ways”.
In doing so, architects and designers are “challenging what we will accept as the traditional norm, especially once we see the potential of colour used in such ways.”
Middleton in South Australia, is about an hour’s drive from Adelaide and 12km from Victor Harbor.
