If you’ve ever shared a bed with a dyed-in-the-wool doona stealer you’ll know how frustrating it can be. And up until now it might have seemed like great minds of science and engineering had deserted you – why is there no solution? Will no-one answer the late-night wails of those made suddenly-a-bit-cold by an otherwise perfect partner?
While we’re waiting for Apple or Samsung to somehow add it as a function to the next smartphone, or someone to come up with a deeply unsettling domestic robot to hover over you and monitor the bedding distribution while you sleep, there is some good news.
It’s called the Cover Clamp and its website claims it “works on all bed configurations” and is “safe for even the most delicate linens”. Plus, it comes with a money-back guarantee, which is pretty comforting.
As the name would suggest, it is a clamp – for covers, sheets, doonas, bedspreads, repurposed picnic blankets or whatever else you’ve stacked on your bed to keep warm at night. It can hold up to five centimetres of bedding material, with the clamp attached to a “grip pad” that goes under the mattress. Alternatively, for super-powered cover hogs, you can use a strap to attach it to the bed frame.
As yet there’s no research on how it could potentially affect romance in the bedroom, or how it can be styled to suit mid-century modern or Scandinavian-designed rooms. When we work it out we’ll let you know.
