DESIGN SAVVY

With careers spanning 13 years together at kitchenware institution Minimax, Melbourne pair Susie Lane and Libby Turner decided to set up a business together, and twelve years on their homewares venture, Turner and Lane, is still going strong. Located in three Melbourne suburbs, Malvern, South Yarra and Middle Park, the stores are treasure troves filled with a carefully edited mix of decor, tableware and jewellery, sourced from around the globe. It’s the kind of stuff that’s affordable and accessible, with individual pieces not found everywhere else. Lani oval bamboo mirror, $89.95. Turner & Lane, turnerlane.com.au.

TROPICAL LIVING

Wisteria Design sees timber, upholstered, bedroom and outdoor collections mixed together with hand-woven rattan and bamboo pieces in neutral colour palettes made by artisan weavers in Vietnam. It’s the business of Kerryn Haig, who knows a thing or two about the furniture and homewares, founding the successful Equator Homewares business over 16 years ago. There’s not much we don’t like from this relaxed, effortlessly cool range. Cubique pod chair, $749. Wisteria Design, wisteriadesign.com.au.

ENDLESS SUMMER

Loved by interiors magazines and stylists alike, the bright and colourful range of beach towels, inflatable pool toys and barbeque accessories from Sunny Life ticks all the right boxes when it comes to lazy days spent poolside. The brand covers  entertainment and games for the great outdoors, selling portable speakers, picnic baskets, and boldly shaped candles (pictured) to add a decorative touch to alfresco dining. Large anchor candle, $36.95. Sunnylife, sunnylife.com.au.

DO THE TWIST

Whitewashed timber, rattan and wicker features prominently in the newly released Coast range at Oz Design furniture. It’s a nod to Australia’s casual coastal lifestyle, and features white washed timber finishes and textural wicker. There’s a few other looks worth noting. Abode is all about the clean lines of the 50s era, while Arthouse will satisfy anyone who likes to mesh geometric patterns and motifs. Pollah wicker side table (pictured), $229. Oz Design Furniture, ozdesignfurniture.com.au.

TRUE BLUE

From her studio in Launceston, Tasmania, Amanda Evans creates a fresh selection of lifestyle items under her brand Cabin Co Interiors. Heading into her third summer season, Evans is a self-confessed addict to the barn-style cabins, along with the colour navy, which is evident in the range of island-inspired cushions she’s created. There’s also knitted rope baskets and ottomans as well as a simple, but hugely successful range of Christmas stockings and Santa-sacks, which are a step up from the norm. Adventure Seeker cushion cover, $50. Cabin Co Interiors, cabinco.com.au.

COLOUR POP

There’s been a game-changing shift of well-priced and on-trend furnishings at Target, which is making it as easy as ABC to update your home. Arriving into stores is its newest range of textiles, tableware and accessories for its Spring/Summer collection, and we particularly like this bright and sunny yellow dipped basket for a quick and easy storage solution that costs next to nothing. Round tapered basket, $20. Target, 1300 753 567, target.com.au.

CANDY CANE

If there was ever a nod to the iconic decorating looks of Palm Springs, then this is it. Wholesaler Amalfi Homewares brings us up-to-the-minute looks, and with rattan furniture making a strong comeback in interiors, their cane room divider is sure to add an extra dimension to a living space, both indoors and out. Islander screen, $599.95. Amalfi Homewares, for stockists phone (03) 9474 1300, amalfihomewares.com.au.

AHOY SAILOR

Everyday classics are what West Elm does best. Their range includes mid-century mosaic tiled coffee tables, modern, metal framed chairs with dusty blush coloured upholstered cushions, and ever-popular nautical touches on their anchor jacquard towels (pictured). Anchor bath towel, $23, and face washer, $8. West Elm, 1800 239 516, westelm.com.au.

HELLO SUNSHINE

There’s always a tropical, summery vibe at Double Bay homewares store My Island Home. Owner Mandy Urquhart’s Transvaal Avenue boutique is an Aladdin’s cave of eclectic, exotic-island inspired pieces that includes vintage surf prints, macramé wall hangings, and bright Caribbean-style furniture, like this eye-catching yellow armchair (pictured), that will hands down add zing to a sunny outdoor lounging spot. Chippendale armchair upholstered in yellow Sunbrella fabric, $1850. My Island Home, 5 Transvaal Avenue, Double Bay, 9362 8760, myislandhome.com.au.
