Opulent real estate is not in short supply on Palm Jumeriah, one of Dubai’s artificial archipelagos, so it is only fitting that its latest luxury development should take flashiness to a whole new level. At the XXII Carat, due to be finished by the end of the year, patrons may enjoy the use of a $US1 million ($1.3 million) bathtub made entirely of rock crystal.
Construction is currently under way for 22 ultra-expensive villas, each with private access to the beach, private pool and imported Italian marble floors and interior fixtures. The development, which is targeted at high net worth individuals, * will be located on the West Crescent of the Palm, next to One&Only The Palm hotel.
The bathtubs are made by Italian specialist Baldi as part of a collection called Jewels for the Home. Huge slabs of precious stone were sourced from the Brazilian Amazon and brought to the Middle East, where the opulent pieces are carved by hand.
The XXII Carat resort will feature bath designs made from rose quartz and green quartz, trimmed with gold and gemstones. Some villas will also feature a bathtub carved from a 10-ton Amazonian rock crystal, a design that was recently sold to socialite Tamara Ecclestone for $US1 million.
The villa complex is being built by Russia-based developers The Forum Group and the opulent properties are on the market for between $US14.6 million and $US32.6 million.

Each property will have 360-degree views of the beach and Dubai Marina Skyline as well as a 24-hour concierge and security and valet parking service, as well as housekeeping, gardening and tech support.

While it is not yet known how many villas will be rented out to holidaymakers, with a million-dollar bathtub, we can only imagine what a night in one of these luxury pads might cost.
*The most commonly quoted figure for membership in the high net worth club is $US1 million in liquid financial assets. Start saving.
