At Domain, we have the privilege of seeing hundreds of beautiful homes every week: from mid-century masterpieces, to decked-out art deco and inspired renovations.
Despite coveting these beautiful homes, we know that not everyone wants or is able to own a big house in the city. Increasingly, Australians – driven by imagination, bravery, lifestyle preferences or rising house prices – have been discovering new ways to live. And we’ve noticed that you enjoy hearing stories of people living a little differently – in fact, they’re some of the most-read articles on Domain.
So we’re excited to introduce Somewhere Else, a new podcast featuring interviews with people who’ve ditched the white picket fence for the path a little less travelled.
Each week your hosts, Domain editors January Jones and Rose Donohoe, interview people who’ve done exactly that. From sea changes to treehouses, tiny homes to French chateaus – we hope you are inspired by these conversations, released weekly onto your favourite podcast app.

We would love for you to listen and click subscribe, so you have your episode delivered each Monday over the next eight weeks.
Our very first episode features Felix and Emma, who decided to pack up their home and move into a converted yellow school bus on Victoria’s surf coast.
After an extensive renovation, the ‘Sandy Bus’ is now complete with french doors, parquetry floors, a fireplace and fully-functioning kitchen – and to top it all off, there’s a baby on the way.
In the coming weeks subscribers will also meet Perth woman Karina, who is restoring a 94-room chateau in the south of France – and who warned us it’s not all smiles and soft cheese when you’re living in a 16th-century monument in a new country.
We’ll also talk with Jane, who lives in a 14-person share house; 80-year old Bob, who lives in a treehouse he built himself; Ian and Vanessa, a couple who sold their homes to house-sit around the world full-time; and another Jane, who made an early sea change at the age of 25.
