The new teams had 48 hours to complete a bedroom in a challenge assigned just minutes after they arrived on The Block site.

Omar and Oz had a lot to work with in their Queenslander style challenge room which featured high ceilings and panelled walls.

But when it came down to judging, their bedroom divided Neale Whitaker, Shaynna Blaze and Darren Palmer.

While Shaynna loved one element of the room, Neale labelled one decision as “a big mistake”.

The first thing the judges noticed was the placement of the door. Darren pointed out that the door could’ve gone anywhere and it was a shame it opened right into the bed.

“It’s in the wrong spot, that kind of annoys me,” he said.

Shaynna was impressed by the Blockhead’s choice of preserving some of the original room. “I have to say I love how they’ve kept the original boards,” she pointed out.

Neale agreed, adding, “They’ve done some lovely things here by preserving the heritage, so I’m very happy to see they haven’t tried to remove it.”

Omar and Oz decided to keep the room simple with a neutral colour pallet. While it’s visually appealing, Neale described it as looking “luxe” but “generic”.

“Once they’ve preserved the panelling in here, they kind of stopped short of doing anything else that talks to the heritage of the house,” he said.

“It’s a room that would belong equally in the city or a beach house,” Neale added.

He then offered the boys a piece of advice, telling them to visit the local town to learn more about what people in this region want.

During the 48-hours, Omar and Oz decided the replace the original window in the room for a larger, modern-styled one. Shaynna noticed the window change, and the judges agreed that it would have been expensive and time consuming to add in.

Neale called the move a “big mistake”.

The next thing that caught Shaynna’s attention was the use of fake plants, which she wasn’t a fan of.

“It feels like property styling, we want to see something that’s got more personality here,” Neale added.

Omar and Oz kept the room nice and simple with their design. They styled the room with a large standing mirror next to a white and timber drawer set. In the other corner was a neutral toned chair with a matching side table.

They also hung a stunning piece of artwork, giving the room a subtle pop of colour.

Despite copping some negative feedback on their room, Neale still summed it up as an outstanding achievement for the short amount of time they had.
