Wayside Chapel charity ambassador, co-host of the Radical Fashionism podcast and actor Christian Wilkins lives with his TV personality father Richard Wilkins in a two-storey home on Sydney’s north shore. The residence has open spaces, handy for entertaining a roster of celebrities such as late publishing mogul Hugh Hefner and actor Bryan Brown.
Christian’s flamboyant trademark is equally felt within, and he brings forth his passion for colour, too. There’s a bright pink bedroom, a dark-red bed and equally dark linen that sit alongside a Christmas tree that never comes down. “I am obsessed with pink,” says Christian, who has just finished filming in Byron Bay for his debut acting role in a new series, Eden, on Stan.
The custom-made chandelier covered in Swarovski crystals was a gift to his father from Sharon Finn (New Zealand singer-songwriter Neil Finn’s wife). “Our house is warm, open and bright. We’re well connected to nature, and it’s eclectic,” Christian says.
The home is a wild mash of influences – think French, Balinese, Thai, Mediterranean and LA rooftop vibes.
“It’s a mix of party and relaxation,” Christian says. “We sit on a cliff with great views and have beautiful gardens with bamboo and palm trees on either side.”
Artwork by MLAK
I bought this in Byron Bay this year. I love how there is a gorgeous woman smoking a cigarette with the face of a tiger. I like the way the female form is represented. The artist Karlee Anne Louise Mackie started painting after her grandmother died and was also born in the year of the tiger. It was a gift to me after filming Eden.
Christmas tree and Fendi bauble
I love Christmas so much I have this tree permanently in my bedroom. It is such a joyous time and in terms of dressing up, everyone adds a bit more sparkle in December – the way I dress all year round. The Fendi bauble was a gift from my friend Andy Kelly.
Magic carpet
This rug belonged to my parents, who aren’t together any more. I remember it being on the floor as a child and we happened to find it a few years ago while watching Aladdin at home. We all got up to sing A Whole New World and ever since that movie night, we end up on the “magic carpet” talking and having a good time.
Dyson vacuum cleaner
My dad gave me this for Christmas last year. I am a clean freak known to vacuum several times a day. Dad says he knows when I am back home because he can hear the sound of the vacuum constantly going.
Pink porridge bowl from Mud
I love pink and porridge is my favourite meal. I got this for my birthday this year from my friend Beck Wilson who is a stylist at Channel 9. Every time I use it I think of her.
Yellow couch from Jardan
We bought this last year when dad extended his house. Our home is very white, but this mustard yellow couch really stood out and it suits the big open space upstairs. It is beautifully obnoxious.
