Brisbane Roar’s A-League defender Jack Hingert has been living in Brisbane for 10 years and recently bought a three-bedroom Queenslander with fiancee Symeon Leslie.

The 29-year-old sportsman has made a side hustle into the business world by launching One Nine, a gender-neutral nappy bag aimed at dads on baby duties. Hingert was inspired to start the business with his mate, fellow soccer player Isaka Cernak, after seeing one of their friends carry a nappy bag that belonged to his wife.

“We wanted to create a bag that was understated, fashionable and cool to carry around,” Hingert says. He can’t wait to use the bags himself, with plans to start a family in the next year.

“It’s definitely on the cards,” he says. “There’s a big backyard that’s ideal for kids, and for now it’s perfect for our dogs that love to run around.”

The home is airy with grey, white and contemporary neutral tones. “We’ll definitely be adding an extension to make it even bigger at some stage and a pool, too.”

A few of Jack’s favourite things …

Medals

I won two championships medals with Brisbane Roar in the A-League in 2011 and 2014 – two major highlights in my career as a footballer. It’s not that common to sustain a long career as a footballer, and not many get a chance to play in the finals, let alone win them as well. It’s quite an amazing achievement – I’m proud of those wins.

100th game framed jersey

This is a gift from my club acknowledging my 100 games. It’s rare for a player to stay with a club that long. I have been playing for Brisbane Roar for 10 years and it shows that football loyalty is hard to come by.

Givenchy sneakers

These are a gift from my fiancee. They are my favourite sneakers. I have an obsession with shoes, and probably own more than my fiancee does. I got them for my birthday a year ago. I save them for special occasions and they’re easily the most expensive sneakers I own.

Foster dogs

We foster for the RSPCA and have done so for four years. We’re up to our 18th foster. We have two dogs at home called Chloe and Lotti. Chloe has been with us for one-and-a-half years and Lotti – a little, shy corgi – has been with us for a few months. We love helping dogs in need.

Custom-made tux

This is custom-made in Italy. I wore it to one of our Brisbane Roar Award ceremonies – a constant favourite and my go-to when I need it for a formal occasion.

Paintings from Positano

We bought these paintings in Positano last year from a street artist and also purchased a smaller postcard-size one that’s sitting on our buffet wall. The painting is of the beach where I proposed, which is very sentimental.  We had to move our wedding from this year to hopefully July 2021.
