With the contestants having wrapped up their first week of renovating on The Block, we delve into the archives and uncover the best and worst bathrooms ever presented on the show.
Shannon and Simon’s wooden bath
In the world of Block bathrooms, it is hard to go past the Sydney brothers’ Japanese-inspired wooden bath that they delivered in their renovations on The Glasshouse. It cost a small fortune, $7500 to be exact, but spending the money paid off. Not only did the boys win the room reveal, but they also were crowned the series winners, pocketing more than $400,000 cash.
Alisa and Lysandra’s raised bath
The twins pushed the design envelope during their time on The Block Sky High by placing a bathtub inside their master dressing room. Sitting atop a raised wooden platform, the tub was lit from below. The dark and moody colour scheme was complemented by the mirrored wardrobe, which made for a glamourous dressing area.
Kyle and Kara’s egg bath
It was the bath that bought oval shaped tubs to the forefront of every Pinterest loving, interiors addict’s mind. The couple designed the room so bathers could sit back and relax in the grey hued bathtub and gaze out at the city lights. The $6000 investment piece helped the couple to score perfect 10s for their master bathroom on the Albert Park series.
Darren and Dea’s tile win
Having narrowly missed out on winning main bathroom week during Glasshouse, the couple came out on top in the Triple Threat season with their impressive main bathroom. The judges appreciated the Jollys’ use of space, fitting in both a bath and a double shower. Dea’s choice of sparkly tiles also proved a popular choice and there was enough storage to keep Shaynna happy.
Chris and Jenna’s bathroom
It was the bathroom that almost wasn’t, with tradies still arriving with less than 10 minutes until tools down to put the finishing touches on the couple’s room. A moody grey space with black finishings; the judges particularly loved the heated tiles and the large shower head. In the end, the final result was perfection with the judges giving the room 10 points each.
Michael and Carlene’s slippery stair scare
We’re not sure what inspired the couple’s podium-like shower, but all we can think is WARNING! It’s a ready-made occupational health and safety hazard. Stairs and water don’t mix.
Mike and Andrew’s marble overload
From IKEA led lights to marble overload, there where just a few too many misses in the boys’ bathroom to redeem themselves.
Alisa and Lysandra’s “uncomfortable” bathroom
Described by Shaynna as too “try-hardy”, while Darren didn’t understand the moss wall and Neale just felt “uncomfortable”; the twins bathroom on Fans vs Favourites failed to reach the heights of their Sky High attempt. We’re not sure why you need a mirror above the toilet (that’s not even at head height) and those timber slats made the room cramped.
Jess and Ayden’s overwhelming ensuite
Everything in moderation, that’s what Jess and Ayden needed reminding of when they designed this room. Having selected expensive yet pretty marble, hexagon-shaped tiles to decorate their bathroom, they went slightly overboard by tiling the entire space with them. It made for a claustrophobic space.
