It’s living and dining room week on The Block and it has been nothing if not emotional in week five of the competition.
Kerrie and Spence have been transparent about their struggles putting this room together, while Courtney and Hans are working on a monstrous 105 square-metre space.
Hayden and Sara, Bianca and Carla and Norm and Jess are struggling, too, with the stress of the competition and the pressure of producing a room worthy of a high-end buyer.
So, in the days before the rooms are revealed, let’s take a look back at some of the competition’s best living and dining rooms and what the contestants have to live up to.
When Elyse and Josh presented their living and dining room last year, Elyse described the room as “very much [their] style”.
“It’s very high-end, with a classic twist to it, and it has a bit of that rustic feel,” she said at the time.
The judges in particular loved the kinfolk styling and cosy feel of the zone.
The couple drew with Ronnie and Georgia for the room-reveal win, scoring a near-perfect 29.5 after using a bonus point to bump up the score.
Ronnie and Georgia’s living and dining room was a winner come judgement day, with their use of neutral colours and native plants creating a calming living space.
Judge Neale Whitaker commended the couple on their “pitch-perfect colour palette”, with the couple scoring 29.5 for the sophisticated room.
With eight renovations under their belts, it was no surprise that 2016 contestants Dan and Carleen won the room reveal of such a coveted space in season 12. After their room was described by the judges as both rustic and high-end, Dan and Carleen stole the win from competitors Julia and Sasha after whipping out a bonus point after the two rooms drew.
Josh and Charlotte won their first room reveal of the 2014 season with their understated, but luxurious, living and dining room. In particular, the judges loved their first impressions upon walking into the room, when they were greeted immediately with the smell of timber and leather.
Michael and Carlene’s winning living and dining room came thanks to a bespoke, floor-to-ceiling bookshelf that dominated the space. Neale Whitaker commended the couple on the room’s “homely” feel, while Shaynna Blaze adored the exposed brick wall.
