It’s master bedroom week on The Block and, naturally, it’s not without drama. Hayden and Sara threatened to walk off the show this week, but not before judge Shaynna Blaze swooped onto the site to offer first-hand advice on styling and design.
Courtney and Hans have struggled to navigate how to style such a large space – 65 metres, to be specific – while Bianca and Carla are working with a room a third of the size of their neighbours.
Last week’s winners Kerrie and Spence are hoping their additional his-and-hers walk-in wardrobes separate them from the competition while Norm and Jess are dealing with a smaller room after stealing some space for their en suite last week.
The rooms are just days from reveal, so let’s look back on some of the best master bedrooms ever produced on the show.
Josh and Elyse presented one of the most memorable rooms on The Block last year, scoring 28.5 for their vast master suite. The star of the room was a pink quilted bedhead that was matched beautifully with a bespoke daybed of the same colour.
They may not have stolen the win with their master suite last year, but Ronnie and Georgia certainly produced one of the most stylish rooms on The Block in recent memory. For their soft, feminine master bedroom, the couple scored 28 points.
In 2016, contestants Kim and Chris won their very first room reveal six weeks into the competition with a master suite bigger in size than many standard apartments. Judge Neale Whitaker commended the couple for a room that, while failing to nail a perfect score, was “the most glamorous bedroom” he had yet seen on The Block.
For their master bedroom in season 11 of the show, Suzi and Voni bagged perfect 10s from the judges. Neale Whitaker said he thought the duo delivered a “gentleman’s club” master suite, while Darren Palmer considered the room to be not unlike a “luxury hotel suite”.
It was the room shrouded in the most controversy of their season, after Josh and Charlotte received three perfect 10s for their master suite only to be disqualified minutes later. In the first week of the competition, contestants were asked to create a bedhead which would later be included in their main bedroom.
Josh and Charlotte did not include their bedhead, assuming the consequence would be one or two points off their overall total. They were wrong but, alas, created a beautiful, spacious room anyway.
