The Simpson’s outfits haven’t changed for more than 30 years. Neither has the interior of their home.
The world’s longest running cartoon sitcom family have had the same grubby brown couch, blue bathroom times, and bottle green push button phone almost since the show started in 1987.
While we can’t do anything about Homer’s blue jeans or Marge’s big, blue bouffant (and we wouldn’t want to), the decor is long over due an update.
Listen to episode five of Domain’s new podcast Somewhere Else:
Enter, reno site Angie’s List, which commissioned seven international interior designers to give 742 Evergreen Terrace an up-to-date decor do-over using 2019’s hottest decor trends.
With the help of interior design consultant Pat McNulty, the bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen and living room were given one of seven styles including luxe, Scandinavian, gender neutral and something called biophilia.
The results are fun, but even more fun are the “real world” renderings of the cartoon decor and how good some of it looks.
The best example is the bathroom, with its turquoise, mid century sink and bath suite – so hot right now in come design circles – and blue wall tile.
The designers gave the room a Scandinavian make over, and it’s lush. But we’re still drawn to that turquoise sink and bath, it’s a Maximalist’s dream!
Other make-overs are more successful, such as the Smart Home style kitchen, and Maggie’s chic, gender neutral nursery. Social justice-minded big sister Lisa would approve.
And the biggest wow factor is reserved for Bart, whose uninspiring pink, orange and green room, gets an 1980s Memphis Design blow-out.
The red wire frame chair is a design classic, and the dash and squiggle window treatments are TDF. Totally rad, man.
