Along with all the glitter, feasting and time with loved ones, comes endless wish lists, shopping, presents and giving. Yet, it is difficult not to wonder, what would we gift ourselves, given the chance?
We asked leading designers, celebrities and creatives what they would love to find under their trees.
“Some additional pieces of taxidermy would be perfect for me. We have a collection throughout our house that includes horns and antlers and is annually festooned with Christmas cheer. They look great combined with the glittery things the kids have made in school, family heirlooms, and the odd piece of designer glass. In recent years, we’ve added fallen bird’s nests that we collect from our property.”
“I would love anything from India Hicks’ range of homewares. I love her legacy letter coasters and her glossy tome, India Hicks: Island Style. It beautifully documents her classic British past and chic Bahamas present.”
“I would love a Highlands Bilum bag from Among Equals, a beautiful serving board from Oxfam, and a fantastic glazed pebble bowl from Mud Australia.”
“For me, a new perfume from Le Labo, and for my home, a Pierre Paulin Canape Alpha lounge from Ralph Pucci, an India Madhavi Don Giovanni Casanova Table Lamp from Studio Alm in Woollahra, and a work by Ryan Hoffmann from his recent DRIFT exhibition at Liverpool St Gallery.”
“I would love to find under my Christmas tree a bottle of Le Labo Santal 33 Perfume, a pair of Celine sunnies, a Fendi bikini and a year’s supply of healing massages.”
“I’d like to continue to build on the art I have in my apartment with some new work from my friends Mark Drew and Filfury. I’m also on the hunt for some more boundary and taboo-pushing pieces. The other big hole I’d like to fill this year is the level of greenery in my home. I need to up my indoor-plant game. A Swiss cheese plant in a Chinese porcelain pot would be a good start.”
“I would love a new set of chef’s knives for Christmas. After winning Masterchef, I am transitioning careers, and I need some new tools for the job.”
“This Christmas I am wishing for Emma Sadie Thomson hanging wall planters, beautiful ceramic sculptures by Kerryn Levy, and one of Mark Alsweiler’s happy paintings.”
“I am wishing for Fiona Hiscock’s oversized, hand-built ceramic vases and pitchers that depict the life cycle of botanical specimens. My record player is broken, so either a reconditioned player or something like a ROKSAN or a Thorens Turntable would be welcome too.”
“Some objects for outside. A hammock, planters box to grow my veggies in, and a cast iron chimenea to replace my terracotta one that is cracked. I love to cook outside on open flames.”
