The Block 2022 is currently in full swing, and in a season first the show ditched city life in favour of a tree change to the beautiful Macedon Ranges in Victoria.

Teams Ankur and Sharon, Dylan and Jenny, Omar and Oz, Tom and Sarah-Jane and newbies Rachel and Ryan are each building a huge house on 10 acres of prime Aussie heartland.

For the first time in Block history not only are contestants building a homestead, but they’re tasked with planning and thinking about landscaping for more than 700 square metres of land.

Where is The Block 2022 located?

The Block 2022 is located in Gisborne South in the Macedon Ranges, some 40 minutes from Melbourne.

Nearby towns include Woodend, Romsey, Macedon and Mount Macedon.

The Block houses are positioned just a short 10-minute drive to Gisborne’s main shopping hub, while the area also boasts primary and high schools, with many other schools just a bus ride away.

Gisborne South is well known for its sprawling country homesteads, tree-lined streets, restaurants and cafes, while the area also features beautiful wineries, olive groves, alpaca industries and local produce stores.

The Macedon Ranges is a well-established getaway for Melbourne residents, and it’s even rumoured that Ed Sheeran has a house in Mount Macedon.

According to the last census, the population of the Macedon Ranges is 46,100.

Why is The Block located in the Macedon Ranges this year?

Over the years, The Block has been filmed in a number of city locations such as Sydney’s Bondi and Manly, Port Melbourne, St Kilda and Brighton.

The most recent season saw the stars renovate on a cul-de-sac in the suburb of Hampton in Melbourne.

Executive producer and Block co-creator Julian Cress had the idea for the tree change after he and his family moved from Melbourne to Gisborne South during Covid lockdowns.

“It is such a beautiful part of the world, and I think the Macedon Ranges is one of Melbourne’s best-kept secrets,” Julian said prior to filming.

“Plus, as we are coming off a really hard couple of years, heading to the country is almost celebrating our lifestyle and what is so great about Australia.”

The houses in the 2022 season will have a seven-star energy rating and be built to design specifications that have sustainability and resilience in mind.

“These houses will be completely off-the-grid,” Julian added.

As a big fan of the bush and historic homes, host Scott Cam was also thrilled when he found out The Block was going regional for the 2022 season.

“Gisborne, where we are, is the perfect tree change joint,” Scott recently said in an interview with 9Entertainment.

“I live in Port Melbourne and it took me 35 minutes door-to-door from Port Melbourne to Gisborne, and to me, that’s the perfect tree change.”
