An architect-designed, two-level house in Bellevue Hill has sold $125,000 above reserve, the second house in the street to sell in a week.
More than 100 people inspected the five-bedroom property built by Mary Ellen Hudson Architects in 2012.
The vendors bought the land in 2008 for $2.11 million with the intention of knocking down the old brick home it came with and building another family home.
About 30 people gathered in the kitchen to watch the house go under the hammer. Bidding kicked off at $6 million and rose quickly thanks to three registered bidders, all local families.
It was two-horse race after the $6.5 million reserve was reached, with bids rising in increments of $25,000 until the house was eventually sold to a Bondi family for $6,625,000.
Selling agent Michael Pallier of Sydney Sotheby’s International said it was a great family home and the buyers would be moving in.
“It ticks a lot of boxes – built on a level block with full designer finishes, there’s not a cent to spend.”
This was the second sale on O’Sullivan Road in less than a week, just five doors down from the home bar tzar Justin Hemmes tried to nab for his ex-wife. That property sold for $6,575,000 and Domain understands Hemmes was not in attendance for the second O’Sullivan Road auction.
The median house price in Bellevue Hill is $5.45 million.
Randall Kemp, selling agent of Ray White Woollahra, said the house’s distinct design may have narrowed the buyer pool.
“It’s a beautiful home, it has a wow factor everyone who walked through the house loved. But the floorplan wasn’t for everyone,” he said.
The vendors are upsizing to Bellevue Hill.
