Sick of not being able to afford a house in Australia? We might just have a solution.
An island off the coast of Scotland in the UK is for sale for about $1 million. There is just one catch — it can only be reached by boat and it takes about 35 minutes to get there, Scottish weather permitting.
Mullagrach Island, in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland, is the most northerly of the Summer Isles, a group of about 30 islands south of the Coigach peninsula, according to selling agents Galbraith Group. It comes with a small cottage and an outside toilet.
Described as a “haven for wildlife,” the island itself is about 36 hectares and features a coastline of “rocky beaches, cliffs and caves.”
It also comes with a “modern, fully-equipped cabin” as well as a “landing stage and ground tackle for running mooring.”
According to the selling agents, the island is about 3.2km from Old Dorney Harbour, with the boat journey expected to take about 35 minutes.
Once you reach your piece of paradise, you can kick back and relax in the “high-quality, low environmental impactcabin” which is a “cross-laminated timber construction.”
The cabin has been designed and positioned to “withstand the weather conditions,” while its “curved, heather-clad roof allows it to blend into the landscape.”
“The interior is well-equipped, with a kitchen area, wood-burning stove and two box beds, while solar panels provide power and there is an outside composting [water closet].”
There is also a rainwater collection system, but you must bring your own bottled drinking water.
According to the selling agent, the current owners purchased the island in 2006 with the objective to “conserve and improve the wildlife and vegetation of the island and to minimise disturbance to sensitive species of flora and its birdlife.”
The owners were granted planning consent in 2014 for the cabin, which was manufactured in Switzerland.
The island is for sale with an asking price of more than £500,000.
The owner’s specially-designed boat is also for sale separately.
Only buyers who have formally noted an interest in the property can arrange an inspection.
Inspections will be subject to weather conditions, and prospective buyers will need to wear outdoor clothing, sturdy footwear and be fit enough to “climb the ladders” leading up to the island.
