A US police department was left with something a bit too big to be handed into lost and found, when an entire house was discovered abandoned on the street.
Found blocking traffic on Long Point Road, on the outskirts of the Delaware state capital, Dover, the public were alerted to the situation by a Facebook post advising residents that ‘this is not a joke”, and to take an alternative route.
Public Information Office Master Corporal Mark Hoffman told Inside Edition that the back axle of the trailer carrying the house had broken, and the road had to be closed as no-one could be found to pick up the poorly-parked prefab at that particular time.
Luckily the unexpected pitstop wasn’t prolonged affair, with the home being removed by the middle of the following day, albeit looking a little worse for wear.
There’s been no updates on the Facebook page as to whether the the temporarily-immobile home has been reunited with its owner, or if anyone has faced arrest (house or otherwise) over the incident.
Delaware, located in the north east of the US, adjacent to Pennsylvania and Maryland is a state known for tax shelter status and if you’re old enough, a Wayne’s World reference.
Home-moving mishaps are not unheard of, with a house that had featured in the Block NZ was rendered uninhabitable by damage from a site development prior to its relocation.
In other cases, it’s the home getting picked up and taken somewhere it’s not meant to be. A tiny house prototype worth $20,000 was stolen from its Canberra owner, trailer included, and later found in Hervey Bay, Queensland.
