Aranda family home has housed seven children

When Colin Goyne and Margaret Read bought their Aranda block in 1968, it was on the outskirts of Canberra.

Now on the market for the first time, this seven-bedroom plus study home offers plenty of space in a very convenient location.

The couple met when Colin was in the army and Margaret was working at the Duntroon library. Work took them to Woomera, Queenscliff, Singapore and Germany.

After Colin served in the Vietnam War, they settled in Canberra and built a house big enough for their seven children.

Their son Brett says it was a comfortable family home filled with happy memories. Colin died 20 years ago and Margaret lived at the property for 48 years before her death in 2016.

It still bears the name of its first owners, Colmar – a combination of Colin and Margaret.

The property is in original condition (Brett says his mum didn’t like the idea of renovating), but its scale and prime location would be perfect for a large family keen to put their own stamp on this much-loved home.

“It has a good feel about it,” Brett says.

“It would be nice to see it renovated and maybe opened up.”
