Brett Whiteley art dealer Steve Nasteski pulled off an impressive property flip on Friday afternoon when he sold his Darling Point apartment for $13.3 million.
The whole-floor apartment in the waterfront Santina building was purchased by the Byron Bay-based Nasteski in August last year for $7.5 million and subject to a lavish $5 million renovation more recently by architect Stephen Varady.
Independent sources say the buyer was Gaish Albert, of the wealthy music publishing family, and Robert Kidd, of Bellevue Hill.
Jason Boon, of Richardson & Wrench Elizabeth Bay, declined to comment on the sale, but had an $11 million guide that was raised to $12 million more recently.
It was passed in at $13.05 million at auction earlier this month with four bidders and a reserve of $14 million.
Nasteski has moved to Byron Bay where he recently completed a renovation of the trophy home Whalewatchers on Wategos Beach following his purchase of it early this year for $12 million.
The four-bedroom spread was originally two three-bedroom apartments before it was amalgamated about 40 years ago by the Spies family, with separate living areas, separate study, four car spaces and panoramic views over the harbour.
Nasteski is no stranger to a high-end home renovation. Last year he completed a major upgrade of the Peter Stutchbury-designed landmark property Invisible House in the Megalong Valley he bought for about $3 million from Hollywood filmmaker Alex Proyas, who originally wanted $9 million.
Nasteski’s most high-profile deal was selling his art deco Coogee house for $5.875 million in 2016 to Tim Minchin, and offloading his Bondi Beach penthouse in the Bondi Pacific for $14.75 million two years ago to heiress Ginia Rinehart, daughter of mining billionaire Gina Rinehart.
