An Ainslie dual occupancy sold under the hammer on Saturday for $1 million, after the original dwelling on the block sold for $985,000 more than two months ago.
The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home at 39B Cowper Street was added onto the heritage listed 1115-square-metre Ainslie block in the early-2000s.
Features of the home include an open-plan design and a spacious outdoor deck.
Around 75 groups inspected the home and there were four registered bidders at the auction.
The home was listed by LJ Hooker Dickson agent Stephen Bunday.
It was a slow start to auction but after the first bid of $880,000, bidding progressed between the four registered parties until the home reached the $1 million mark.
Bidding halted at $1 million but the home was not declared as sold immediately with Mr Bunday conducting negotiations between the vendors and buyers.
After a period of about five minutes the home was declared on the market with the hammer falling shortly after.
Mr Bunday said he was pleased with the result.
“It was a little bit harder work than I hoped but we got there in the end,” he said.
Dual occupancies are popular in the inner north suburb, with generous block sizes allowing plenty of room for a secondary dwelling.
Last Saturday, a dual occupancy at 1/9 Leslie Street, Ainslie was snapped up under the hammer for $1,055,000.
Ainslie’s median house price is $906,000.

Elsewhere in the auction market on Saturday, a townhouse in neighbouring Braddon sold under the hammer for $811,000.
The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home is located in the tightly held boutique Allenby complex.
There were six registered bidders at the auction for the Braddon townhouse.
Ray White Canberra agent Treston Bamber said a young couple relocating from Googong purchased the home.
Braddon’s median house price is $1.26 million and the median unit price is $450,000.
