They say it takes two to tango – and a couple of bidders is all you need for a lively auction too.

Blink and you would have missed the sale of 82 Parkhill Street in Pearce on Saturday.

The modern, mid-century house beneath Mount Taylor attracted close to 80 groups through its doors in the lead up to the auction.

Two committed parties registered to bid on the home, sparking a tight tussle for the 1027-square-metre property.

A strong opening bid of $850,000 was the first in a series of quick-fired bids, pushing the price towards $1 million.

The house was on the market by the $995,000-mark before a brief pause in the proceedings.

One of the two parties almost backed down before throwing in a final bid of $996,000.

It wasn’t enough, with a young Canberra couple snapping up number 82 for $997,000.

Selling agent Rob Cappuccio of Peter Blackshaw Woden and Weston Creek did not expect the home to be on the market again anytime soon.

The four-bedroom house was designed by architects Hancock Courtney and Renfree.

“It ticked every box: location, the quality of the home, the architecture, awesome light areas,” he said.

“It’s a great family spot. This will be someone’s home for many, many years.”

Mr Cappuccio said south-west Woden remained highly sought after.

He said the Canberra market was not showing signs of slowing over winter.

“I think, with the shortage of properties we’ve got out there, its certainly not cooling down,” he said. “We’re as busy as we’ve ever been.

“There’s heaps of demand for quality homes in quality areas and that’s not going to change anytime soon.”

Full auction results to come.
