Auction watch: Kingsway home records highest 2017 sale for Queanbeyan East

At Queanbeyan’s edge lies a small neighbourhood which is home to mansions on large properties with exquisite views and immaculately kept gardens.

Kingsway is one of Queanbeyan’s best kept secrets.

Situated just off the beginning of Kings Highway, Kingsway is perched atop Bungendore hill and offers magnificent views. While the large parcels of land give a rural impression, it is only three kilometres to the centre of Queanbeyan.

Last Thursday, a Kingsway home – 3 Regent Drive – sold at auction for $1.6 million by Ryan Broadhurst of Belle Property.

This is the second sale in Kingsway for Belle Property in a matter of months. In October, Broadhurst sold 9 Birdwood Place at auction for $1.55 million.

“Kingsway gets some of the highest sales in Queanbeyan,” said Broadhurst.

“It’s a great spot to be up there so close to the centre of Queanbeyan but still on a big block.”

The property at 3 Regent Drive is a six-bedroom home which lies on an acre-and-a-half block.

Manicured gardens surround the home, alongside a number of water features and a pavilion which give the property a European feel.

The two-storey home offers spacious living through segregated living areas. A billiard room is the perfect set-up for entertaining, as is the large dining room and bar.

Broadhurst took 57 groups through the home and there were three registered bidders at the auctions. The reserve price was $1.6 million.

Bidding began at $1 million. After the second bid of $1.25 million was placed the price slowly crept up through incremental bids of $25,000 to $1.6 million.

After a long consultation with the owner, the home was sold for its reserve price. A local Queanbeyan family who were attracted to the size of the land and house brought the property.

The prestigious Kingsway falls under the suburb of Queanbeyan East where the median price is $529,000.

Homes for sale in Kingsway are few and far between. The last sale in Regent Street occurred in 2009, at no.8 for $970,000.

This is the first sale for 3 Regent Drive with a dwelling.
