You may not have heard of a donga but add it to your real estate lexicon. Dozens and dozens of these homes are listed for sale around Australia right now, from $100,000 and up.
Dongas – an Aussie version of the granny flat – are sometimes individually offered on a block of bush land, or are tucked behind the main house as extra accommodation or a studio.
A donga is a temporary, transportable home and most are found in the Northern Territory, Western Australia and Queensland, on Domain.
In Kondinin, WA, buyers will find the cheapest donga on the market (at the time of publication). With five bedrooms, its the Rolls Royce of dongas in terms of size, with a price guide of $105,000.

With “double donga rooms” and safari tents for guests, this landmark is on the market for a buyer who wants to be the custodian of a well-known address in a wild and beautiful part of Australia. “Established in 1875 the Historic Lion’s Den Hotel and Campgrounds is located at the end of the Bloomfield Track,” the listing explains. “A magic area of the world, tourists adventure through the Daintree and Cape Tribulation in route to the Cooktown region.”
