For most people simply giving their cars a wash and an oil change every so often is taking enough care of them.
But an American property developer has a new proposal for extreme car lovers with extreme money.
AutoHouse in Miami will be a condominium complex just for cars – a prestige apartment that you can’t actually live in.
While the most basic model with room for two car spaces costs $US350,000, the largest of the 45 car spaces available is planned to sell for $US1.5 million ($2 million).
To put that in perspective, that’s nearly double the median house price in Sydney of $1,021,968.
For $2 million you could house two cars and several people in a three-bedroom apartment in Sydney’s Darling Harbour with killer views.
Or you could buy a six-bedroom spread on Brisbane’s North Stradbroke Island and still have cash left over.
“AutoHouse is the ultimate private showcase and members-only social club for owners of the world’s finest automobiles and motorcycles,” according to AutoHouse’s website.
So essentially you can’t live in the apartment, but you can pimp it out to impress the other members of the exclusive social club.
Owners will have the option to include wet bars, audio-visual systems and man caves for other hobbies, and be able to access their units via a 24-hour lobby with car elevators.
The building’s penthouse is the social lounge, featuring climate controlled wine and cigar cellars, a Formula 1 simulator and dining areas with views of Miami’s skyline.
AutoHouse has vehicle pampering facilities including a detailing workshop, car wash and a concierge service to co-ordinate pick-up and delivery of the prestige cars.
Construction is expected to begin in 2017 and reach completion in late 2018.
It’s certainly a far cry from street parking, or a garage filled with boxes and Christmas decorations.
