This is what a $50 million-worthy renovation looks like.
A waterfront marvel with its own foreshore, priced to shatter the Sydney Northern Beaches price record, was treated to a makeover, elevating it into the cream of Australia’s prestige market.
The mansion – named Celeste – at 6 Cabarita Road, Avalon Beach, was purchased in 2017 for $12.995 million, Pricefinder data shows.
To push into another league of the market, from a sum from just shy of $13 million to a $50 million hop – which would almost double the current Northern Beaches benchmark of $27.5 million – requires something special.
Former sales campaign photos, on Pricefinder, show the evolution from lovely waterfront home to showstopping landmark.
The buyer will be the third owner, according to Domain’s Pricefinder. The first recorded transaction for the residence was in 2006 for $6.5 million.
The listing, owned by property developer Robert Yazbek and his wife Annette, is billed as “one of Australia’s most magnificent deep waterfront properties” and it is impossible to argue.
The original 2011 design was by Rosalie Stollery Architects and Burton Architecture was engaged last year to build upon the splendour, the listing reveals.
Occupying a glittering position on Stokes Point, the property cascades down to the water, via terraces, and has a private beach, jetty and boathouse.
An enormous infinity pool seems to kiss the waterline.
Many places to lounge and admire the bobbing yachts have been incorporated into the landscaping. An entire level dedicated to fun includes a terrace overlooking the pool, games room and a bar.
Full-height glass windows and doors from the living zones peel back to the Pittwater, and a lift whisks the residents between the three floors.
No view inside the home is impeded by the architecture. When it last traded in 2017, the home featured wood accents and although still chic, was now quite as luminous as it is now.
Joinery and a marble bench in the kitchen were updated, and now the sunshine off the water seems to bounce around the interior.
Glossy marble, towering to the ceiling, frames a corner bath with view waters, replacing the slate-coloured tiles of old.
The staircase has been given a new treatment, from an open-step style to a sleek, encased walkway.
Wooden flooring in the sumptuous main bedroom creates a flow to the terrace, and the wood edges around the ceiling have been removed, so the finish is minimalist.
