Sporting legend Michael Jordan’s long-empty mansion is back on the market – but this real estate flip has a twist.

Chicago investor John Cooper purchased the landmark but unwanted home from the basketball great at the end of 2024 and is offering portions of it for sale, under a co-ownership model.

For $1 million, plus a 2 per cent annual, co-owners can have access to the ginormous Chicago estate for one week a year, Mansion Global reports.

The manor has 19 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms and co-owners can pay extra to host parties and events at the property.

Those who buy in will be members of a so-called timeshare, giving them the rights to the home under agreed terms. Timeshares in holiday homes are not uncommon in the US.,

Jordan’s home, named Champions Point, was listed with initial hopes of $US29 million ($AU46.89 million) 13 years ago. The man known as his Airness put his jersey number, 23, on the gates.

It languished on the market until Cooper made his move to close out the year, at a substantially-discounted sum of $US9.5 million ($AU$15.2 million). It made headlines after a TikToker broke in and showed that it had fallen into disrepair.

Cooper told Mansion Global that the property would be preserved.

“It’s an opportunity to own a piece of history and bring sports enthusiasts together through a unique co-ownership model,” Cooper said in a statement to the website.

“Our goal is to create a shared experience where co-owners can enjoy unparalleled amenities and also the sense of connection and community that comes with it.

“By preserving the property’s original design while integrating modern technology, we’re ensuring that Champions Point continues to be a place where extraordinary memories are made for years to come.”
