Belconnen's Ginninderry attracts 400 registrations on first weekend of sales

About 400 people have registered for Ginninderry’s first 57 blocks of land and 17 townhouses.

Registrations for the first stage of the new west Belconnen community opened on Saturday and project director Steve Harding said the weekend was a success.

“Registrations are open until April 21 so we expect we’ll be getting some more,” Mr Harding said.

The registered parties are vying for single dwelling blocks and “flexi-living” homes in the new suburb of Strathnairn.

Successful candidates will be selected via a draw, similar to the ballot process widely used in Gungahlin’s new suburbs.

About 360 of the registrations were for the blocks of land, which range from 300 to 550 square metres and are priced from about $230,000 to $360,000.

About 40 buyers registered for the separate-title, townhouse-style flexi-living properties, however Mr Harding said there were other interested parties who didn’t meet the criteria.

The two and three-bedroom homes, ranging from $365,000 to $489,000, will meet affordability thresholds and be sold to people on household incomes of less than $120,000.

Mr Harding said buyers were predominantly from Belconnen and Gungahlin. 

A development application has been lodged for the suburb’s first 356 homes.

Further properties are expected to be released for sale this winter.

Ginninderry will comprise four suburbs, three in the ACT and one in NSW, subject to rezoning approval.

About 11,500 homes will be built over the next 30 to 40 years.

Registrations close on Friday, April 21. The sales centre is open seven days a week but will be closed for Good Friday.
