What a difference a year makes.
In May last year, as Sydneysiders were emerging from lockdown and no more than two visitors could be welcomed into our homes, former Hillsong leader Darlene Zschech and her pastor husband Mark sold their clifftop home in Terrigal for $4.162 million.
At the time, Australia was bracing not only for a national healthcare emergency but also an economic depression given the extraordinary measures involved in shutting down whole industries and the closure of our international borders.
The sale took a week and ended the Zschech family’s three-year ownership of the property they bought for $3.85 million from New Yorkers Joanne Low and Daryl Wright.
But the striking three-level house on the clifftop has long fallen short of its record-setting sale of 2007 when it was sold for $4.5 million.
That is until June 19, when it goes to auction with a $6 million guide.
Nick West of The Agency Central Coast is buoyed by the interest even though the only change to the property itself is the new furniture.
“There is a very healthy amount of interest in the house,” he said.
“Given the amount of interest, I wouldn’t be surprised if it even sets a new high.”
Terrigal’s record stands at $7 million, set by another clifftop residence bought in 2017 by Rich Lister Tony Tartak, the founder of waste management company Bingo Industries.
West has reason to be confident.
The median house price in the Central Coast has soared in the year to March, up 16.8 per cent, according to Domain Data.
