Billionaire and chief executive of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, has listed his luxury California home for the third time in two years but has dropped the price by almost $7 million, to $43 million.
The seven-bedroom, nine-and-a-half bathroom home in Hillsborough in the San Francisco Bay Area is thought to be the last one he owns, with Musk announcing last year he would be selling “all his physical possessions” including his houses, via Twitter, The New York Post reports.
Musk had previously tried to sell the home himself for $50 million, asking interested buyers to get in touch with him in June. However, this time around, he has employed the services of realtors Mary Gullixson and Brent Gullixson with agency Compass.
The home, built in 1912, boasts water views, a pool and a gourmet kitchen. It also has a large library with leather walls, a grand living room and a high tech security system, according to the home’s listing.
It is one of more than a dozen homes that Musk has listed for sale over the past 18 months. The others, including four in the ritzy Californian suburb of Bel Air, he has managed to offload.
There’s no word on whether Musk will accept cryptocurrency for the home, though he has been seen as a huge fan of the market, especially dogecoin, which he has tweeted about. His tweets often affect the value of cryptocurrency including dogecoin earning him the moniker “crypto king” or “dogefather.”
The tech entrepreneur has had a busy year despite the coronavirus pandemic, “semi-separating” from his Canadian singer partner Grimes last month. The two have a 12-month-old son together, called X Æ A-Xii.
Early this year, Musk announced to the world that he has Asperger’s syndrome while appearing on an episode of the American comedy show Saturday Night Live.
He has also been caught up in a space race with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who made a sub-orbital space flight in a rocket named the New Shepard in July. Musk is yet to make his own space flight.
While two of his businesses have head offices in California, Musk has moved to Austin, Texas, and now reportedly rents a modest “boxable” home on SpaceX’s launch site in Boca Chica, otherwise known as Starbase.
