Brad Pitt has certainly got the cash to splash.
The two-time Academy Award winner has forked out over $US40 million ($57 million) on a historic clifftop castle in the Carmel Highlands in California.
Referred to as Seaward and first owned by American writer D.L. James, the home dates back to 1918 and was designed by renowned architect Charles Sumner Greene.
Prior to Pitt’s purchase, the property had been owned since 1999 by a limited liability company connected to late Chicago financier Joe Ritchie and his wife Sharon.
Property records reveal it’s one of the priciest deals ever made in the desired Carmel area.
When not filming Hollywood blockbusters, Pitt will be able to enjoy the sweeping views of California’s central coast from the home’s clifftop location.
The original exterior remains – local sandstone and granite – as well as arched windows and a tiled Mediterranean-style roof.
Pitt, who often shares his love of architecture in interviews, may want to add his own unique touches to the interior, which features a beige and timber colour palette.
The ex-husband of Angelina Jolie also owns a $US5.5 million home in Goleta, north of Santa Barbara.
Pitt purchased the home in 2000, the same year he married Jennifer Aniston.
