It’s been dubbed the “love shack” by actors Bryan Cranston and Robin Dearden, and now this classic Californian beachside home is up for sale for $A6.51 million.

Cranston and Dearden, who have been married since 1989, bought the home in Mussel Shoals in Ventura County in 2007, just as the popular TV series Breaking Bad, in which Cranston played the lead role of Walter White, began filming.

Originally a 1940s bungalow, the house has been transformed by the couple into an environmentally friendly showpiece. An extra storey has been added, as well as green technology like solar panels.

The property, also known as Three Palms, is now a luxurious net-zero home that has won awards for its sustainability, including the US Building Council’s Green Home of the Year.

The redesign was completed in 2013, with Turturro Design Studio and Allen Associates lending their expertise.

Cranston and Dearden’s stunning home includes three bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms. Custom furniture and part of the couple’s personal art collection can be purchased with the home, according to the LA Times.

Being so close to the beach, the home – which is listed through Coldwell Banker Realty Montecito’s Jon Perkins and Katherine Walsh – also has stunning ocean views.

In a media release about the sale, Cranston said he had poured his “heart, soul and blood, sweat and often tears” into the home.

“There’s something lovely about creating something with tremendous pride and effort and turning it over … letting someone else take it to the next level of appreciation,” Cranston said.

“I hope a family buys it so that their kids and grandkids all come to visit, and they can jump in the ocean and learn how to swim or surf and go for walks on the beach – look at the dolphins that come by almost every morning and afternoon.”

Cranston won four Emmy Awards for his role in Breaking Bad. He played a secondary-school chemistry teacher with cancer who turns into a meth-making drug lord to provide for his family.

He has starred in a number of comedy movies and TV series including Malcolm in the Middle and, most recently, in the Netflix series Your Honor.

He first met Dearden on the set of the ’80s TV series Airwolf, where he played a bad guy. They were both in relationships at the time, but met up again and started dating when each was single.

The couple has a daughter, Taylor Dearden Cranston, who is also an actor.
