An award-winning Brisbane builder is now making waves in lifestyle TV, having been hand-picked for two new property-related shows on Network Ten and Foxtel.

Daniel Klinge, of Norman Park-based Klinge Constructions and Developments, has been chosen to star on the judging panel for the Network Ten series Australia By Design.

The new show, which counts down the top 10 residential homes, office spaces and industrial buildings in each state and territory, will air in Queensland on July 22.

Hosted by renowned Australian architect Tim Horton, the final episode will feature the best-of-the-best projects based on the judges’ decision.

Later this year, Klinge will feature as a resident builder on Foxtel’s Love it or List it Australia, a format already popular around the world, starring Selling Houses Australia favourite Andrew Winter and interior expert Neale Whitaker.

But he insists he’s no Scotty Cam.

“I’ve got a great head for radio,” he laughs. “This isn’t something I went looking for but I’m glad to have done it.”

Klinge, along with his interior designer business partner and wife Luisa, was hand-picked after winning 2016’s Master Builders Brisbane renovation of the year, Queensland renovation of the year and being selected as a finalist in Australia’s renovation of the year (up to $1 million), for a project they carried out at Crosby Road, Hamilton.

“My wife and I work so well together — I’ve got 20 years’ building experience and she creates a beautiful aesthetic in every home,” Klinge says.

“Being a judge on Australia By Design was a real eye-opener to how outstanding and also how diverse Brisbane architecture is — people may think Brisbane is behind but I’ve seen first-hand that we are on par with Sydney and Melbourne.”

He says the diversity of Queensland’s architecture was evident during the filming of By Design Australia, where the entrants ranged from penthouse apartments, to beach houses, to a CityCat ferry terminal.

“The CityCat ferry terminal was an interesting one. It’s so unique and so specific to Brisbane, which I think really showcased how clever and diverse Brisbane architects and builders are,” he says.

“The things I was looking for when I was judging were structural integrity, the difficulty of the site, the fixtures and fittings and the complexity of the structure.

“I can’t give anything away but I can say you might be a bit surprised at the winner in Queensland.”

Australia By Design airs on Network Ten (Channel 10 Metro and WIN regional) from 3pm every Saturday afternoon.
