It’s been another big week for the Brisbane housing market, with the top ten sales totaling $28.9 million and former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s daughter Jessica revealed as the buyer of a luxury estate.

Ms Rudd bought in Chelmer just before Christmas last year, and finally settled on the property for $2.18 million.

The huge renovated Queenslander sits on three blocks of land in the heart of Chelmer, featuring five bedrooms, an in-ground pool, and private cricket pitch.

A luxurious four bedroom, riverside mansion with uninterrupted city views in Scott Street, Hawthorne, sold $5.6 million, last week’s top sale.

It was sold by Ray White East Brisbane’s Trevor Egan. He said the new owners were looking for a high-end riverfront home and wouldn’t settle for one or the other.

“They’ve been looking for a while and they hadn’t found anything,” he said. “They just fell in love with it.

“[The new owner] is into boats.”

Second was 58 Retreat Street in the Bridgeman Downs, a one hectare family estate littered with statues and fountains. The suburban mansion was built with high-quality materials and boasted a tennis court and separate guest house in the compound.

The third highest sale was another riverside home, this time in the secluded Fig Tree Pocket. Jesmond Road is know for a number of exclusive and extravagant homes, and 10/680 Jesmond Road follows the trend.

The four bedroom home has a home cinema, a 3,000 bottle wine cellar, and a four car garage.

And the fifth highest reported sale was 252 Wellington Road in East Brisbane, a recently renovated pre-war art deco home. The charming exterior hides a modern interior which makes use of riverfront views with floor to ceiling windows.

McGrath New Farm agent Sherri Storor said the home sold under the hammer, which is unusual for a prestige home. “It just had the right mix of demand.”

“We knew had a lot of interest in the property, including some with out of auction conditions.”

Ms Storor said the style and convenience of the property drew in a wide range of buyers.

“There was demand for this home was because it was very unique… but it was also very low maintenance which makes it a good alternative to owning a penthouse, something you can lock and leave.”
