Set on 172 acres of unspoilt land, this grand estate near Shoalhaven was a country escape for one of Australia’s leading businesswomen.

Lee Hamilton bought Rockfield Park in 1992 as a ‘haven’ away from her Vaucluse mansion.

An artist and a business magnate, Hamilton was one of the first women to have a seat on the Sydney Stock Exchange.

Now, her daughter Naomi Hamilton is selling Rockfield Park for a guide price of around $18 million.

Both the estate and the house itself are steeped in local history.

The original homestead was first built in the 1860s, and was the first colonial settlement on Berry Mountain.

When Hamilton first bought the house in the 1990s, she and her husband remodelled it substantially in a Scottish style.

But many heritage details still remain, from the 120-year-old fireplace to the hefty one-metre-thick sandstone walls.

In the newer parts of the house, red cedar ceilings, handcrafted ironwork, and mud render-style walls give the home an earthy quality.

There are four bedrooms and three bathrooms on offer in the main house, along with a vast network of sitting rooms and dining nooks.

Outside, the established gardens and lake were inspired by Monet’s garden in Giverny and took the Hamiltons over 30 years to create.

Beyond the gardens are more than 80 acres of usable land, including a commercial-grade butchery, an aquifer, and a one-bedroom tiny house.

Jane Zwar from Belle Property Berry and Kiama says Rockfield Park is “vastly bigger than anything else in the region.”

“If you’re craving to be wrapped in nature, surrounded by complete privacy, in under two hours from Sydney, it doesn’t get better than this,” she said in a video.
