A stunning Toorak mansion formerly owned by broadcaster and comedian Steve Vizard has sold for at least $22 million.

Selling agent Marcus Chiminello of Marshall White confirmed the sale when contacted but would not be drawn on any other details.

Dating to the 1880s, the grand Italianate Victorian home is on a large block of 1727 square metres and has six bedrooms, three bathrooms and parking for five cars.

It comes with a Modgrass tennis court, self-cleaning pool, outdoor entertaining areas, a Tuscan-style garden with lemon trees and an apple tree, cellar, underground water tank and a lookout tower with views across Melbourne.

Ideal for entertaining, the kitchen has Miele appliances – three ovens and two dishwashers – and there’s also a butler’s pantry.

The home sold within its asking price guide, according to a source familiar with the deal but not authorised to speak publicly.

Public records show the sellers are fund manager Alastair Hunter and Sarah Jane Hunter, but no indication of the buyer or price has yet been made public.

The residence has been renovated extensively under their ownership, by architect Russell Casper, with interiors by Thomas Hamel and landscaping by Paul Bangay.

It was once owned briefly by Gold Logie winner Steve Vizard, known for the TV comedy series Fast Forward and Full Frontal, his talk show Tonight Live with Steve Vizard and various stints on radio.

Melbourne’s prestige market has been busy this year, with well-heeled buyers emerging from 2020’s lockdowns in search of more spacious accommodation as they plan to spend more time at home.

There has been a string of $20 million-plus deals. Pratt family scion Heloise Waislitz paid $22 million for Boost Juice founders Janine and Jeff Allis’s house in Toorak, while the house of celebrity chef and his former partner, actor Madeleine West, reportedly sold for $24 million and another owned by the wealthy Stamoulis family sold for more than $20 million.
