More than 200 people attended the showpiece event for LJ Hooker’s Advantage Auctions series at Manuka Oval on Wednesday, with two sales breaking the million-dollar mark.
The standout sales of the evening were two prestige properties in the inner north suburb of O’Connor.
A four-bedroom character home on Hart Street sold for $1,080,000, while an elevated home surrounded by private, established gardens on Dryandra Street sold for $1,015,000.
A mix of freestanding homes, townhouses and apartments from across Canberra went under the hammer.
Four of the 27 homes sold prior to auction and the clearance rate on the night was 60 per cent.
LJ Hooker franchise owner and director Matthew Herbert said many of the homes that didn’t sell on the night were under negotiation.
He expected that 75 per cent of the sales would be cleared in the next couple of days.
A total of 57 vendors signed up for the event, which Mr Herbert said offered benefits for buyers and sellers alike.
“It’s great for the sellers,” Mr Herbert said.
“They can bring their property to auction at a reduced rate, saving money and getting more exposure for their dollar.”
Buyers, on the other hand, had the advantage of purchasing at auction and investors could benefit from events that sold multiple properties.
“Buyers find a great deal of comfort knowing they get the market price from this transparent process,” Mr Herbert said.
“You’d be surprised how many times a buyer has no intention of buying a particular property, but they see value and register on the night.”
It was also a great result for a worthy charity. Ronald McDonald House was presented with a $5700 cheque – $100 from every Advantage Auctions listing.
The in-room event was bookended by two days of on-site auctions across Canberra, including 12 held last weekend.
The event will conclude this weekend with 18 home set to go under hammer.
The next LJ Hooker Advantage Auctions series will take place in spring.
