If you’re looking for somewhere outrageously scenic to snuggle down next to a fire with a book, this picturesque Swedish cabin that comes bundled with an expansive private island might just do the trick.

Indeed, for the startlingly affordable price of $1.22 million (7.9 million SEK), you could own the gorgeous Grillskär Island.

And what an island it is; covering almost 18 hectares, this spacious rocky retreat is also a secluded nature reserve home to seals and sea eagles. Sea buckthorn plants, a plant most commonly used in skincare, are also dotted all over the ridges and inlets of the island.

The listing, translated from Swedish, describes the property as “an entirely unique island with stunning nature and stylish construction that blends well into the beautiful archipelago landscape”.

There are several different dwellings on the property, but the main single-level cabin features two bedrooms and one bathroom. Those bedrooms open onto wooden verandahs and feature large windows with views out into the gorgeous surrounds. The whole house takes up roughly 110 square metres.

Clearly designed with Scandi minimalism at its core, the house features countless wooden accents including varnished birch floors. There’s also a roomy kitchen which, like the bedrooms, opens onto a timber terrace. A basement with a technology room and various storage options completes the charming home.

But that’s not all you’re getting for your money. Below the main cabin is a boathouse, with yet more storage, perched precariously on the water’s edge. Above the cabin is a brightly decorated guest house with, you guessed it, more storage.

Further up the island is a small shack known as a Friggebod, which is a uniquely Swedish structure that can be built without planning permission so long as its dimensions are no more than 15 square metres and it is no more than three metres high.

A second guest house is located near the water’s edge and features two rooms, storage space, and a kitchen with a wood-burning stove. There is also a deep-drilled well on the property.

The estate also comes with land on the nearby island of Gräsö. Again, translated from the original Swedish, the listing notes “the property consists of three parcels according to the divestment document, of which a parcel is located on Gräsö where there is the possibility to build a house.”

So where exactly is your soon-to-be Swedish island paradise located? The aforementioned island of Gräsö is the closest landmark, which is roughly three hours’ drive north from the Swedish capital, Stockholm.

It’s a popular summer tourist destination but is quiet for most of the rest of the year. Getting to Gräsö Island via public transport isn’t particularly difficult, but Grillskär Island is only accessible by private boat.
