A California estate with its own vineyard and helipad has been sold more than 15 years after it first hit the market.

The 32-hectare property, located just outside, Cambria, a seaside village about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, sold for $US17.225 million ($AU27.7 million), according to Mansion Global.

The sale price was more than $US10 million ($AU16 million) less than the most recent asking price of $US28 million.

The sale marks the end of a long real estate saga, with the property on and off the market since 2010 and failing to sell at auction at least twice before.

The property, which once had an asking price of $US60 million ($AU96 million), features a main home described as a palatial Venetian-style house with six bedrooms as well as several guest apartments, a caretaker’s cottage, a show garage with its own bar and an 1179 square metre two-storey event space/pavilion which was built to house a helicopter.  There is also a private helipad.

The property also boasts a 2.4-hectare vineyard with 6200 Pinot Noir grape vines, 1.2-hectare olive grove,  hiking trails, riding paths, pastures and meadows stretching to the Pacific Ocean.

The property is set up for equestrians, with stables for six horses, as well as two fenced pastures and a network of bridle paths leading to the ocean.

Mansion Global quoted selling agent Neyshia Go of Sotheby’s International Realty, who said the property’s amenities supported multiple lifestyle or recreation preferences.

“This property has so many unique features that there are so many options in how you can utilise [it],” Go said.

Go was acting on behalf of real estate developer Khosro Khaloghli, who used the property to house an extensive car collection including a Bentley once owned by Winston Churchill.

She said he acquired the property, which is located close to the famed Hearst Castle, in the 1990s after falling in love with the area as a child.

She said he spent years building the home, guest apartments and other amenities but never actually stayed in the main home, which was completed in 2009, according to Realtor.com.
